Stop the constant mental gymnastics
Quiet Your Mind is a transformative book for anyone who’s been trapped in the cycle of overthinking, especially for men who struggle to articulate and manage their thoughts. For the past 40 years, I’ve felt overwhelmed by my constant mental chatter—always second-guessing myself, analyzing every move, and getting stuck in a loop of what-ifs. This book finally gave me the words to describe what I’ve been going through, and more importantly, it provided actionable tools to start making a change. What I appreciated most was how the book doesn’t promise an overnight transformation. It acknowledges that progress takes time and effort, but it instills a sense of hope and provides clear steps to start shifting your mindset. For me, it has been a game-changer, helping me regain control over my thoughts and take more decisive action in my life.If you’ve been struggling with the same kind of mental clutter for years, Quiet Your Mind might be exactly what you need. It’s a valuable resource for anyone ready to stop living in their own head and start living with intention and purpose. I’m excited to continue using the tools in this book and, hopefully, to see even more positive changes in the near future.

Helpful evidence-based tools. Great read.
This book is rare among psychology books I’ve read in actually motivating me to try many of the exercises, rather than simply reading and forgetting. It strikes a good balance between having enough science to create understanding, while remaining interesting without getting dense. You can choose from a broad range of evidence based practices to reduce overthinking. At least some of them will resonate with you. Some of the skills I found most helpful:1. Listing overthinking loops that your mind regularly gets into. Preparing this list ahead of time helps you notice when you are getting into the loop, and to cut it short.2. Re-interpreting nervousness (autonomic arousal in your body) as excitement about an opportunity to meet a challenge.3. Writing for a few minutes every morning about the day ahead, and what goals the daily stressors are helping you build towards in the long term.4. Trying to catch yourself every time you are overthinking for a week and writing it down. The process of noticing is often enough to diffuse the anxiety.5. Temporal distancing- trying to imagine a future version of yourself, 5 or 10 years in the future reappraising a current source of anxiety. There are many more, and the academic evidence and examples help them stick.
