Our Lab clearly likes this better than the Blue Buffalo she started on (confirmed with a side-by-side bowl comparison ) and its attributes for reducing the odds of hip dysplasia that’s all too common in many breeds was the initial deciding factor.Also all of the other attention in the added pre and pro-biotics, Omega’s, DHA ( omega-3 fatty acid) etc., is more thorough than the other quality brands she has had, like Wilderness.One reviewer said his dog had diarrhea when starting this brand. Even people can experience thsi when changing their diet-esp to a more healthy one. Another reviewers Veterinarian recommended adding a dollop of Yogurt, which may be a good idea even with the pre+pro-biotic already in the recipe.What we did was mix what she was used to eating with this new food at perhaps a 60/40 (old/new) ratio and she had no transition problems. Her coat looks shiny and better than ever compared to our previous other top band.We also use Tropiclean Fresh Breath oral care water additive (I’ve no affiliation or interest with any brand of anything except as a customer), and only mention this because it also has Omega 3 (and 6) Omega’s, and she gets an egg a day, both of which may be helping her coat shine as well, but we used these with her old brand and her coat certainly did not pop like it does now.To what degree this helps with her coat is impossible to say; it’s only a cap full per 16oz and ingredient concentrations are not listed.

Great choice for a large breed!!
I have a 9mo old (80lb) Swiss mountain dog, and I had been looking around to find the best fit for his diet. This food is wonderful, I feed him roughly 6 cups a day (3 cups in the am, 3 cups in the pm). I slowly integrated the new food and within 5 days his stool were solid and he looks very healthy and isn’t picking around the house for more food. His coat is shinier, and he looks like he added some weight and overall mass. If you are questioning shelling out the money for this, it is definitely worth it. Having a large/giant breed dog, it is crucial that they get the correct amount of protein and fat and calcium etc., so they don’t grow too large too fast and cause health problems down the line. My boy is going to be around 150 lbs when he hits maturity and I am following this rule of thumb for nutrient guidelines. Hope this helps!! 23-28% Protein; 9-15% Fat; 1.2-1.5% Calcium; 0.8- 1% Phosphorous; and this food hits every mark for a growing pup!

terrific puppy food
The food itself is great puppy loves it Great ingredients. my only problem is we put it on subscribe and save and every other month lately it is not available so am switching to another brand and am changing to adult since my pup is almost 11 months. Also picking a brand that I can buy in Pet stores so if I have a problem I can get it in my area. It seems I can buy this for 15.00 dollars more as a one time order when they can’t fullfill it so it is out there why offer it subscribe abd save if you can’t get it every month? So product is great subscribe and save not so much

Awesome product!
My Saint Bernard has been on this food since he was 12 weeks old and he absolutely loves this food so much I was able to use this as treats for training. He is now 7 1/2 months old and is very healthy. He has no hip problems nor any weight issues that Saint Bernards are very prone to. In addition, his bowel movements are very regular and this food has not produced any diarrhea. What I love most is his coat is very shiny and resembles silk fibers. All around, I have had no problems with this food whatsoever!

My 4 Month Old Newfoundland Loves It!
Prior to this food, I was feeding my Newfie Chicken Soup for the Puppy Lover’s Soul Large Breed. I would put the food down for her for 20 minutes and she would ignore it. Then I’d put the food down again later in the day, and she might eat a little, but not much. Then by dinner time, when I put the food down, she was hungry enough to eat the whole bowl.With Hollistic Select, she will eat all the food in the bowl everytime I put the food down; breakfast, lunch, and dinner. She loves it! I have also noticed that her stools seem to have firmed up on this food. They were never really on the runny side, but were always a little soft. They are now quite firm and very easy to pick up with a poop bag, whereas they would kind of get stuck to the grass before.This food is a little more expensive than other brands (about $15 per 30lb bag over the Chicken Soup brand), but you know you are getting quality ingredients on par with the “super premium” $60 for a 15lb. bag brands. I am also willing to pay the extra $15 knowing that my dog actually likes to eat this food.

Definitely worth it!!
We used this puppy food with our first mastiff and she is a very healthy four year old now. Just adopted another mastiff “puppy” – he was about 9 months old when we got him, and have been feeding him the Holistic Select large puppy food for two months now and he is also doing really well. We believe that, while the dog food is a little pricey (but Amazon has it for the lowest cost and deliver it!!) it has kept our first dog so healthy, we’ve saved on veterinarian bills.

Food looked good on paper but puppy threw up within two hours of eating even a small amount.
My puppy threw up each time I tried to feed the Holistic Select. Even 1/4 cup mixed with the starter food from his breeder (Eukanuba large breed, chicken) made him throw up. I hate that this happened because on paper this would have been an ideal food for my Irish Wolfhound.

I would highly recommend this food for larger puppies
We’ve been feeding the Holistic Select Large and Giant Breed Puppy food to our black lab/golden retriever pup since he was about 8 weeks old and he really enjoys it. He has never had any digestion problems (save for once when he ate grass and got a sore tummy), his poops always come out smoothly (sorry if TMI), he is always lively and full of energy, and he is growing big and strong. He is now 6 months old and 63lbs. The vets always say that he is healthy! I would highly recommend this food for larger puppies.
